Norway was culturally impoverished by 600 years of foreign control ,but by the middle of the 19th century art was becoming a potent expression of national pride, culminating in the exuberant paintings of artists such as Harald Sohlberg & Nikolai Astrup. In this second part of our course we will look at the development of Norwegian Art in response to the cultural and political climate in the country and study the artists in the context of their time.. This course continues on from the art of Finland. Students are not required to have attended the first part of the course. All welcome.
